New to Orienteering?

Orienteering is an exciting outdoor adventure sport which involves navigating around a course using a detailed map and sometimes a compass.
The aim is to navigate between a set of control points and decide the best route to complete the course in the quickest time. It does not matter how young, old or fit you are, and you can run, walk or jog round the course and progress at your own pace.

First junior passport completed

Back in February 2024, DFOK launched a junior passport scheme where juniors could win prizes for attending orienteering events and filling out how the event had gone in their passport afterwards. We have just had our first junior complete the full passport, with Isla Findlay completing all 25 events. She has now received all the awards: a whistle, mini control kite, control description holder, compass, DFOK buff and a free entry to a regional event. Well done Isla, a great effort!!

Success at the final KOL for DFOK

The final KOL of the season took place on Saturday 17th May at Milton Creek Country Park in Sittingbourne. There was still a lot to play for in the league and this was the last chance to improve your standing. The area is a mixture of some relatively flat rough open with plenty of paths, some lakes and even a level crossing! It was going to be an exciting final event especially suited to the faster runners!

There were some great results by DFOK members on the day especially on the blue, green, yellow and score courses with Antoine Pesenti finishing 2nd on blue, Ian Catchpole finishing 4th on green, Joseph Embleton finishing 2nd on yellow and Sam Embleton and Elaine Eyers finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively on the Score course.

The league standings were then announced and DFOK had eleven top three finishers, with two finishing 1st. Adam Davidson won the junior league for the green course and Sam Embleton won the Score course!! Congratulations to everyone who competed in the KOL this season, especially all the medal winners, and we look forward to seeing you all back in October.

The final results for the series are here.
