People in the Bexley area have been turning out in force to try out orienteering at a series of events taking place in the area. The sport, which involves navigating between a set of control points marked on a unique orienteering map, has proved popular with all ages. A spokesperson for Dartford Orienteering Klubb who are hosting the series commented, “Our target was 100 newcomers over the four events but we now expect to smash that!”.

The latest of these events which took place at Danson Park in Bexleyheath was particularly popular with families and children, perhaps due to the proximity of the start to the play area. Despite the fact that most of those participating had no prior experience, everyone managed to find their way around the simplest course and many of those went on to try a more demanding “score” course which involves finding as many controls as possible within a set time limit.

The series continues with the next orienteering event again taking place at Danson Park on 31st of October with the final one on the 14th November in Foots Cray Meadow.
