Klubb Championships 2018
Thorndon Park South, Brentwood
Sunday, 30th September
This year's DFOK Klubb Championships will be held at the HAVOC Level C Event at Thorndon Park South on Sunday 30th September.
If you want to enter the Klubb Champs, make sure you enter the appropriate course. There's a table below where you can see your category. If you want to have a run, but not to enter the Klubb Champs, that's no problem - it's a normal district event with colour coded courses so just enter whatever course you want.
Everyone is welcome. There are no pre-required standards or anything like that and there are a number of different categories. If you're new to the BOF age class system and are in any doubt feel free to ask. The emphasis for the day will be for everyone to have a fun day out!
The categories are:
|1||M20, M21, M35 and M40||Blue*|
|2||W20, W21, W35, M18, M45, M50 and M55||Blue|
|3||W18, W40+ and M60+||Green|
|4||M75+, W65+||Light Green|
* Note that there will be no Brown course at the event as the area is too small for a course of this length, but for the club championships, those aged M20 to M40 will run Blue but with separate winners from the combined M18 and M45 to M55 age class which always runs Blue.
There are engraved commemorative shields awarded to the winners (male and female) in each category in the Klubb Champs - these will be presented at the AGM in October.
Elite Sport Funding
UK Sport has published a consultation on elite sports funding and I would encourage all club members to respond well before the consultation closes on 19 August.
Kent Night Cup (KNC)
With the clocks going forward a few weeks back that marked the end of the 2017/18 Kent Night Cup season. This was another successful series with 25 events put on over six months by the organising clubs (SAX/DFOK/SO/MV). They attracted 154 competitors, with 19 from DFOK, including a few new to regular night orienteering. The leading DFOK performers were:
6th Andrew Pitcher
9th Neil Speers
21st Dave Cave-Ayland
36th Julie Collins
44th Rosie Merry
61st Hayley Collins
Plans are already starting to take shape for next season, with DFOK putting on six events between October and March (generally around the middle of the month). If you are interested in taking part in the series next winter and want information then let me know. Similarly, if you are not one of our regular KNC organiser/planners and would like to arrange one (and collect the 40 points for doing so) then contact me.
Neil Speers (DFOK KNC Coordinator)
